What would cause you to cancel plans for a first date at the last minute? I know there are hundreds of potential reasons but this has happened the last 3 dates I've had planned - a day or two before I'll receive a message to the effect 'hey, sorry life is so busy for me at the moment and I'm not in the right headspace for dating and I don't I have friends that stick to plans. If they have to cancel they will give a reason and then come up with a plan to meet up another time instead. However, I also have these other friends. They either cancel plans last minute (1h before meeting up) or they message back the next day saying 'oh so sorry, I was really busy'.
We had a small party with just my parents and siblings at a small venue planned. Everything paid for, decorations bought, giant cake ordered, cute dress for her, etc. We ended up celebrating at home, just the three of us while wearing masks to try to prevent her from getting it and both feeling miserable. That was last Saturday, the 17th.
Something along the lines of "I'm still happy to go ahead with our original plan, but if these last minute changes are dead-set then I won't be attending, but let me know if you do fancy going back to the original plan and we can set a time to meet for that".. Just be direct. Women seem to cancel dates last minute a lot in my experience. We can speculate why for various situations, but I’m wondering how I as a man should… I guess I see plans as mainly useless and inflexible. I plan things like 5 people + get togethers or large scale work projects, but I think events with 2 to 4 people rarely need planning. In addition, I think plans lead to insincere behavior like "Oh I'd like to, but I promised X" or "made plans to X". When I called to say, “I need to cancel tonight, I’m having a bad mental health day and I’m not going to be very good company,” she said, “Well, I hope that I’ll be able make you feel better, but I understand and respect your decision if you want to cancel. I hope you’ll change your mind because I really want to see you.

I had plans with two different women this week. One texted me the day of saying that she wasn’t going to be able to make it and suggested two other days where she would be free. The other ghosted me, allowing me to show up at the predetermined place and time and wait for 30 minutes before resigning and going home.

Everything, always, last minute. I can't count how many times we've been late, not gotten stuff we were supposed to buy, had to cancel plans because mom and my sister decide the night before they need the car at the same time as I have a medical appointment 1t0NI.
