RF 24-105 f4 L IS w/hood in case.!0x Monocular; Card Case; Batteries; Note - No room for a battery grip and R3 would be a non-starter in the 18L; This would be my shooting configuration with lens/bodies attached. Not a lot of free space but it does zip even with the 200-800 collar.

Canon RF 24-105 F4 L IS USM. On the day I arrived at Rock Island Lodge, I was eager to start capturing the beautiful scenery on the shores of Lake Superior. Unusually calm conditions during our stay made it possible to get images like this. This night it was my turn to check out the rock headland at the north end of Government Dock Beach.
Given weight considerations I plan to leave my EF 24-70 f2.8 L and 35mm f1.4 L lenses at home and use the RF 24-105 F4-7.1. I am after recommendations for RF lenses either 24-240 or RF 100-400 f5.6-8 or RF 70-200 f4L (price is a concern) and I may throw in RF 16mm F2 or RF 50mm f1.8 if I purchase one of the non-L tele lenses.

Canon RF 24-105 f/4-7.1. The main thing that makes me not want to recommend this lens is the f/7.1 maximum aperture at the longer (105mm) end. When you shoot at longer focal lengths, you need a faster shutter speed. Plus this is a focal length you may want to use for shooting sports or wildlife as well, which also tend to require faster shutter

I would rather drop 3k on 3 great primes than 3k on a massive and heavy one, and the likes of the 35 f1.i and the 85 f2 etc just don’t motivate me to spend any money. For that reason I stick to the 24-105 f4 for general purpose, and the 50 f1.8 stm for lower light shooting. For the latter I would preferred something like the 50 GM from sony
The Canon RF 24-50mm F4.5-6.3 IS STM might be the lightest and most affordable zoom for full-frame EOS R cameras, but it doesn't offer much range or make particularly special images. MSRP $299.99
